Well I haven't written much because I haven't done much. The old wonky knee has made me rather ....... immobile. So after yesterdays stellar pilates class (FINALLY!!) I sauntered in for my physio appointment today.
Aimee already knew (clunk- why is Jim doing hand stands against the wall? All I see are is booted feet going up and down and I can hear him grunting).....
Aimee was already aware of the fact that I was seeing her about my knee so after I described the problem in further detail she prodded around the knee cap pushing it around and then marched her "thumbs of death" up the outer side of my right thigh. A foreshadow of what was to come....
She tells me that my knee cap isn't tracking right (all that click click click I had gotten) and that the inside muscles around the knee aren't strong enough and the outer muscles and IT band are tight.
Apparently this is a very common ailment for runners?
Then started the THUMB OF DEATH walk (except she used her elbows) up my leg causing so much pain I actually grimaced and whinged about it. These sessions usually cause me to sweat more than anything I do in pilates. Which I guess is about right... STILL .. it feckin hurts.
As she is macerating my leg... she tells me she is pregnant! "Congratulations!!" , I cheer to her and then, in between the tears I am shedding from the pain, we chat about her pregnancy . I'm pretty excited for her. She seems to be very happy herself and I guess... a bit of the glow going on there too.
Man- EVERYONE is having babies.
The end result of the physio appointment is - she taped up my knee and told me to keep that on for a few days (ripe knee here I come!) and gave me an exercise to do, put me back on the runners bench for a few weeks (I'll be back into it right around Glasshouse )... and that's it.
I wanted to then walk home from the city but after I found my way down to the bike path.. I find out it's closed for construction work and when I asked what the detour was (go back up to the street and then cross at the light.. go several blocks and you know that street?? ... then next one over... )
I thought.. EFF it.. I'll take the train home and walk another day.
So that was my physio appointment. Now to find that tennis ball.

Not Running.... Need to Post....
It's dark dull days kids when a Meez can't run. The knee cap and it's surrounding suburbs are all painy like. So I've got all Monday afternoon booked up seeing various expensive people at QSMC.
A few key points....
Saturday, Mr Meez and I had a great time at the Brisbane Lion's game. It was my first sporting event in Aussie a Go Go Land and I'm thinking I could go do something like that again. I'm hopin tho to make it to a Bronco's game before my guy Locky retires.
At work this week, an eccentric but nice woman was talking about how she disliked the movie Juno. She then went on to talk about how she thinks adoption is a bad idea. She sees it as a horrible thing to do to a kid. It was an odd argument to hear because usually people all say that adoption is the "loving option" and that abortion is bad. However, woman said that she'd be willing to get an abortion should the circumstances line up so. Hunh.
I bought pants today, a candle, and an over seas draft.
When I bought the candle, at a shop that I regularly buy my candle's at... the sales girl asked if I'd bought their candles before. I said yes... why???? I don't know because she proceeded to tell me what I already knew about trimming the wick. Thank you for going ahead and treating me like I'd never used one of your candles before hooker. Anyways.. she threw in an extra bit of trivia that I suspect is only there to get you to buy more crap. She said that you should always "snuff" a candle out and not "blow" it out. Uh....
I brought my candle home. I lit it without trimming the wick.. and I blew it out later when I was done with it. Nothing blew up..
HOWEVER.. our digital tv box did!! It went "POP" and then smoke came out of the top vents. The little thing had a heart attack and died right before my eyes!!! I quickly turned everything off so it's death didn't infect any of the other electronics in it's vicinity. Tomorrow night we venture off to get a new one.
Over all the day was ... a 5 out of 10.

An Introvert in an Extrovert World
Wellllllll Its true! Badger forbid a person be able to keep to themselves rather than be forced to socialize.
But that is neither here nor there... in fact that has nothing to do with now.. but it was something I was thinking about earlier. There's a bunch of extroverts out there badgering the few introverts there are into being grouchy socialites. You only have yourselves to blame.
Olympics.... what is this velodrome crap? Didnt we already have cycling? Why do we need to be indoors? I dig the Olympics... but really... if you think about it.. some of these things are no longer modern athleticism. I don't see how dressage works... or ...this velodrome stuff.. Even archery.. well.. I guess not really a whole lot of it fits. We should have Olympic free running.. you know.. the stuff where they're running up the side of a building and through city scapes. It's facinating to watch yeah. Imagine those guys running through Beijing.
Today was a bit of a bust. I was going to stay home and do nothing but the dinkus's upstairs are having all this work done on their apt and so all morning it's sawing and drilling and NOISE.. and the tradies were all chatting outside my door and I couldn't rest with all that bru ha ha crap going on.
So I cleaned up and went into the city thinking I could grab a coffee and a comfy chair somewhere and do some reading.. NOPE.. The city was buzzing and all the chairs were taken. So I wandered with my friend on her lunch break from lunch to bank to bank to bank and then I went up and checked out her new office. Attempted to crack a few jokes with a few lawyers.
Throughout my footin it through the city, my knee was acting up. It feels swollen and like it's retaining water. Just my right knee though. It aches all around the knee cap and even to the back of the knee. Sigh.. I want it to go away because I don't want to go see the physio anymore.
I came home and sat down. Consoled myself with an A&W cream soda and a 3 Muskateers.
No running today.. I think I'm half grouchy.
OH but I got an interesting new book to read. So now I want to finish the Pirates! book so I can read the Flashman one.

The Ekka Day
This time last year I was in the States and looking for the nearest air conditioner. This year I'm freezing here in Straya. As I type I hover over a candle hoping to keep my frozen fingers moving so that I might finish my blog post for you dear readers ( all 4 of you).
I went for a run this morning!! Got up late and headed off for a trot along Coro with hubby around 9am. Since I've been slack with my recovery and since I am in recovery, it was to be an easy run. Well, I've lost so much fitness that there is no such thing as an easy run. I swear I'm back to square one.
It was to be a few 500 meter bits with walking in between. After a few warm up jogs (gah it was freeezing out!!) we did our stretching at the boat ramp. I intended to time each of the 500 m runs because I wanted to see where I was at fitness wise. I hope to run my first 10 k run under 60 minutes.
From the 000 mark to the 500 mark it took me 3:00:24. Ugh- kinda slow. It felt slow though. Just taking it easy. From the 1000 mark to the 1500 mark it took 2:58:58. A little better. The run from 2000 back to 1500 went a fair bit faster still.... 2:47:16. I was kind of surprised with that one and chalked it up to the bit where I ran down hill. All things move faster going down hill. The last 500m from the 1000 to the 500 mark felt more strained. Jim pulled away and ran faster, no longer trotting by my side. My stomach was starting to hurt and I felt like I was running slower than before but when I stopped my timer and looked down.. it read 2:44:32. No way. The rest of the way home was a discussion about how the run felt. I think I was just warming up, which leads me to believe that I can run under 3 minutes for my 500 m bits. I just need to keep doing that and do it 20 times over.
Easier said than done. I have high hopes for me though.
The rest of the day kind of ran past me though. As soon as we got home we had to shower and get ready to go. Our friends were coming over and we were all going to head off and bbq at a park for lunch. I really wanted to sit down and write this blog but it had to wait. People get touchy if I pay more attention to my computer than to them. Sha.
A quick stop at Coles for more food and we were then on our way to the park. It was pretty crowded there but we managed to find a quiet spot near the river away from the crowds of screaming people. Literally screaming into megaphones . FtW people? Take it easy.
It became a long afternoon though when lunch turned to afternoon tea and jenga war. Then a movie at our friends place. So here I am now finally blogging. Its been a lovely day though.Don't get me wrong and I'm lucky to have the next two days off as well. I think lately I've become grouchy with my time wanting to be alone when I feel like it. Gotta remind myself that being a good friend overrides my mood sometimes.
Anyways... cant wait to get out for another run now.

How about tripling your income??
So today I had a meeting with a recruiter, which in all honesty,I always viewed as the absolute worst part about job hunting. I've previously met with a slurry of recruiters from various agencies and felt no benefit from it. It usually results in a 30 minute chat about my resume and what kind of job I am looking for. Then... silence. I never hear from them again or if I did, it would be for a job that in no way met the criteria I had set for them. So as far as I knew , all recruiters were bunk.
Then earlier this week I got a call about my resume. I wasn't expecting to speak to anyone about resume's because I was temporarily under the weather and I was thinking about how under the weather I was- but this man rang me and asked if I could come in for an interview. Given how many places I'd sent my resume, I wasn't sure what job he was talking about or if he was from the company or an agency. I quickly agreed to meet on Thursday and then got off the phone. Only after that did I suspect he was a recruiter.
DRAT!!! !never to waste my time again with these people! However, I chose to keep the appointment because, well.. not much else was happening and I am in a phase of particularly disliking my job more than usual. The meeting was on my way through the city so it was no skin off my nose to stop for a chat.
Which leads to today. I got into the city early and after a few small purchases I needed, I headed up to the offices. I was a half hour early, but I figured- why not ? Best case scenario I get in and out of the interview earlier , worst case- I wait a half hour. Again- not too fussed. Lucky for me though, we started early.
To begin with, this place seemed a bit more posh than the other agencies. I got the impression they mainly deal with management and upper management type candidates. I'm in khaki pants and a hoodie with a backpack, the recruiter is in a suit and tie- but he was friendly, shook my hand and all.
Then we started to discuss the job. It'd be either a regional qc manager job with the potential to be a national position for a biggish company. I'd be responsible for basically making sure they were up to snuff and minding their p's and q's laboratorically speaking. Low end of the pay range would automatically triple what I am making now.
The recruiter man and I ended up talking for over an hour-about who I am , what kind of worker I am, how I would handle larger manager scenarios, travel that would be required for the job, my work experience and how he felt I was for the job. We basically spoke bluntly and while I would be perfectly suited to throw my hat in for the job if it were to stay a regional one, the national one might be a little over my head. Well its true.
However, recruiter man said that if I want to go for the job he'd submit my resume and help me get ready for the interview if need be (that'd mean coaching me through an interview and even driving me there so I wouldn't be late). I told him that I wanted to go home and discuss things with the hubsand but I'd call him shortly about the job.
Well... I want to go for it. I'm not getting all giddy and worked up over that... but hey.... you never know what you can do until you try.

Pirates! in an adventure with CJ!
There isn't much to report really. Crazily enough, I have been unable to eat normally since Sunday averaging about 1 meal a day. I thought I'd stop that today but each time I ate I had a burning sensation in my stomach. Not sure what that is all about.
Have you ever tried to clean a broken egg up? Its viscera is gooey and snotty and it almost seems to be paperphobic.I couldn't get the crap to soak up. This was all from Jim making us dinner last night (eggs on toast) and accidentally breaking two eggs. Well .... it was an interesting little feat to accomplish for us. I am certain it has further cemented our bond- you know... cleaning up eggs.
Having canceled my pilates class on Monday and then Tuesday as well, I will not be able to get back in til the end of August. It's a little disheartening but I cannot do classes in the morning- only in the afternoon and thats where the real crush is. Everyone wants to do pilates in the afternoon.
Who the frick has time off in the work week mornings to activate core muscles?
So- because of late, Jim and I have exhausted ourselves and are going into a lockdown this weekend to get some rest. No one gets into our place and we don't leave. Except-it failed already. Sunday is a breakfast lunch for the father in law.. so we have to go out and socialize for that. And then Jim wants to still play touch on Sunday afternoon and go to the gym Saturday morning.
We fail.
How are you all?

Blog of Days
Well.... after a painful Sunday of bedridden agony.... well... lets not talk about that.
The big news is that I am back into running! I went out Saturday morning(ish) for a run and it felt good. When I finally got to Coro Drive,I was greeted with a fantastic site, a regatta. Now that takes me back. I took a few seconds to watch and sussed out that it was a bunch of high schoolers racing sprints. One little girl was hollering like a demon possessed. Why do they think they need to sound like WWE wrestlers to get their crew motivated??
I started to trot down the bike path alternating between brisk walking and a light run . Distracted by the race though, I have to say I spent more than a few minutes watching the races. Several other bystanders were watching the races as well. We all shortly noticed that there seemed to be a boat caught on the back of a party barge (or boat or whatever). The girls were pushed under the barge by the strong current and it seemed that they could not push off the barge without tilting into the current and water. Other racing shells were pilling up behind them watching and I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to help them. Every now and then you could hear their shrieking.
Eventually a little tinny pulled up and then more and more as the adults of this event were taking notice of the distressed rowers. Apparently things were bad enough that shortly thereafter little neon green rowers were flinging themselves into the water and making desperate swims to the boats . One by one they were hauled out of the water and wrapped up in blankets on the boats and sped off to land. Then some daring young man stripped off his attire and holding a rope in one hand dove into the river (a great idea yah). Swimming over to the capsized shell, my guess was that they were trying to salvage the boat. Eventually , I moved on with my run. As I neared the end of my run I noticed ambulance lights flashing and driving off from the opposite bank. I guess they had greater injuries than I thought, however there was no mention of the event anywhere in the news. I wonder what happened to that crew?
So yeah, that was my first run back into things.
Then I got sick for 2 days and now I'm trying to set up a routine again where I can regularly run and what not.

Nicotine, valium, vicodin, marijuana, ecstacy, and alcohol
A dreadfully slow week has ended in an all out effed Friday. Full on.. knee deep in prawns. Murphy's Law kids.
The day had set up well enough tho little ones. To begin with, our heroine did not eat dinner last night. What she did though, was to forage into the busy depths of Indooroopilly shopping center with hubsand and friends in tow. That many obnoxious teenagers and blithe adults in one spot is bound to wear out the most extroverted of persons. So never mind the effect it had on our introverted heroine.
It was supposed to be a short trip. Two items : a book and a candle (hehe how Quest-y eh?) but with the addition of friends who wanted to window shop..being there was inevitably drawn out.
By the time our band of players drove home it was 8ish and they were tired little pups.
On top of which, our internet addicted heroine chose to stay up and chat online for a little while, and then by 9:30pm polished off this undernourished night with some reading. (GREAT BOOK THO!!)
The bleeping call of the 4:30 am alarm woke our groggy and delirious chicquita. By 6:30 am she was at work checking data and sipping on hazelnut flavored coffee. Brown gold. Fire in the blood. Brain shaker upper.
MMM.
Flying through the paperwork and quickly finishing her scientist duties for the day, she looked in the Dreaded Fridge to see if how many samples there were to process. Previous days had left the Dreaded Fridge quite barren but some evil overlords had chosen to send the poor heroine a tidal wave of samples and prawns to process. Drat and double drat....
Pulling out the samples from the Dreaded Fridge, our hard working woman flew into a tizzy AND a frenzy of writing up and sorting out these malicious prawns. Shortly into it.. a fellow lab worker showed up briefly to write up and move samples from one spot on the bench to another spot on the bench.. but he flew the coup early on to do more training..
OH the luck.
After writing up pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of samples, she took a short break to briefly feed on some very unhealthy food. Chicken fingers washed down with some berry flavored V . Yeah.. Jamie Oliver would be proud.
Flying back into the lab, lab coat flying , goggles askew, gloved snapped onto tense fingers.. she got stuck into the mountain of prawns. It was a never ending chore of pulling the squishy buggers apart , nasty prawn poo smeared onto gloves and fingers digging into stinky flesh to be churned up in an artificial stomach and then filtered for further looking at. Her back ached. Her eyes dulled over as she kept at her task , bent over a biohazard garbage can. Peers came and went and still she was at the damn prawns. By three o' clock she had had enough.
Calling her chauffer.. she quickly made arrangements to be rescued where upon he came as fast as fast can be to whisk her away from that seafoody fleshy hell.
Now our dear girl is at home. Freshly showered and in her pajamas... sipping on single malt scotch.
Her face is numb and a solid nights sleep is in order.
